10 Fun Easter Egg Hunt Ideas

Are you looking for some fun Easter egg hunt ideas? Easter is a great time for children since it ushers in the springtime after a long winter of being cooped up indoors. It’s a sign that summer and warmer months might be on the way, and it’s a sign of new beginnings. However, coming up with Easter egg hunt ideas that are new and creative can be challenging. Here is a list of 10 fun Easter egg hunt ideas that you might be able to use when planning your child’s next Easter extravaganza.

1. Obstacle Hunt – This is a good idea if your kids are having a big Easter egg hunt in a large yard with a lot of other children. This might work better with older children, too. Along with the egg hunting, you also have obstacles as well. When the timer goes off, for instance, the children take off and have to complete tasks along the way, picking up eggs as they go. The tasks might include doing 5 jumping jacks, filling a bag full of Easter grass, or hopping like a bunny. The first one who finishes wins a big prize.

2. Egg Hunt in the Dark- A new and exciting spin on the standard Easter egg hunt is to have it at nighttime. Equip the kids with flashlights and glow in the dark stickers and let them search for eggs in the dark. Expect lots of giggles.

3. Easter Clues-To make the egg hunt a little more interesting, consider using clues. Have them start with one egg, which has a clue taped to the bottom of it. They have to follow the clue to find the next egg. Make sure that you have quite a few eggs so that the hunt doesn’t end too soon. Of course, if you have a lot of children, this will be a lot of work for you, too.

4. Colored Egg Hunt- Instead of letting the kids pick up any egg that they find, make them draw colors out of a basket and only let them pick up eggs that are that color. This will make the egg hunt last longer, as they will have to search for their color amongst the other eggs.

5. Indoor Easter Egg Hunt-If it’s just too cold where you live or you experience a rainy day, then have an indoor Easter egg hunt. You might want to make a map of where you hid your eggs, however, or else you could forget where all of them are.

6. Fun with Maps- Carrying on with the maps, you can also create a “hidden treasure” Easter egg hunt. Create a map of the eggs with clues, illustrations, and cryptic messages. This works especially well if you have a large yard or a park that you are hiding the eggs in. Let the kids work in teams to inspire teamwork, too.

7. Kids Hide the Eggs- Boil a bunch of eggs and divide them into two piles. Let the kids hide half of the eggs in one area while the parents hide the rest in the other. Then, have a competition to see who finds the most eggs-the kids or the parents. The kids will love watching their parents run around looking for eggs.

8. Secret Prizes- Using plastic Easter eggs, hide secret message inside some of the eggs. If you find one with a secret message, then you could be the recipient of a prize, like a small toy or a $5 bill. Try to make enough of them so that every child has the chance to find something secret.

9. Midnight Egg Hunt and Breakfast- Try something completely different and have the egg hunt at midnight. Once the children have found all of the eggs, or most of them anyway, bring them back in for pancakes and waffles for Easter breakfast.

10. Timed Race- This works best as a relay race. Using teams of 2, set a buzzer for a couple of minutes at a time. When it goes off, one partner runs around and tries to find an egg. When the buzzer goes off again, the other partner has to do it. After about 15 minutes, whichever team has found the most eggs wins a prize.
