All About Easter Plants

Easter plants are very popular due to the fact that it is the one way to bring spring into your home, even before your flower gardens are blooming with colorful blossoms. Today, you can find a lot of different Easter Plants available to purchase from your florist and grocery store, or even online. These plants usually come available in the months of March or April.

If your Easter Plants are properly cared for they can last long past the Easter season. You can actually replant your plants in your garden for flowers all summer long, and some will bloom year after year.

One of the most popular Easter Plants is the Easter lily. Growers ensure that these flowers are in bloom, no matter which month Easter comes each year. They do this by planting earlier, and cultivating them in a greenhouse setting.

When looking for an Easter lily to give as a gift you’ll want to ensure that two of the lower flowers are open, and that there is no evidence of disease or pests in the plant’s foliage. Some Easter lilies will have the yellow pollen sack that sits in the middle of the flower, removed.

To prolong the life of your Easter lily plant you will want to place the planter in an area that gets indirect sunlight; it should also be kept in a room that is cool. To ensure that your Easter plant is getting enough water, check to see how dry the soil is each day; when it is dry about an inch below the surface, it is time to water. It is also important not to over water this plant, as it may cause bulb rot. As the blossoms fade, remove them but take care not to remove leaves or damage the stocks. Once all of the flowers have died, you can place the plant in a sunny location.

You can also transplant the Easter lily outside but you will have to wait until there is no danger of frost. Pick a location that has well drained soil and receives a lot of sunlight during the morning but shade in the afternoon. Carefully remove the plant from the pot, being sure not to damage the roots. Plant at the same depth as the pot it was in and use slow release fertilizer to feed your lilies. Although some of the leaves may die, others will take their place. If planted correctly and the Easter lily survives, within a couple of years you should have blossoms by mid summer, which is the normal time for this plant to flower.

The other flowers that are popular as an Easter Plants are daffodils and tulips. These flowers are also forced to bloom early by the growers so that they are ready for Easter. If these plants are cared for properly they will easy make the transition from pot to garden. When these Easter plants are still in their pots, you will need to care for them in much the same way that you care for Easter lilies. With these Easter plants you will plant the bulbs in your garden as apposed to the plant. Let the plant grow in your house, without disturbing the foliage, and then plant the bulbs in a well-drained soil in an area that will receive plenty of sun. These Easter plants will produce spring blooms that will add beauty and color to your flower garden.

Giving Easter plants as gifts is one way to give something that your friends and loved ones can enjoy for a long time to come.
